I am trying to prime my water pump and I keep getting air in the line which is causing it to lose prime. What could be causing this? Plus when the pump is running its not filling up the bladder tank, is that because it will fill the hot water heater, toilet etc first?

I am trying to prime my water pump and I keep getting air in the line which is causing it to lose prime. What could be causing this? There are a couple of things that would cause you to lose prime.
1. You have a leak in the suction line causing water to leak out. **OR**
2. You have a faulty foot/check valve.
My bet's on door #2.

when the pump is running its not filling up the bladder tank, is that because it will fill the hot water heater, toilet etc first?
No! The pump fills the bladder tank first,(see image) The bladder tank is what supplies constant pressure to the rest of the house. Otherwise your pump would run every time you drew as glass of water. Your pump isn't filling the bladder tank because of what was discussed earlier. Good luck, Tom

I can get it to prime now, but it keeps getting air bubbles in the line?

Could be that your water table has fallen and the pump simply runs out of water. **OR**
You have a leak in the suction line that allows the water in the line to flow back into the well.
This would cause the water to come up in spurts with air.
Tell me more. Does the pump start normal and then start to bubble and spurt or does it start right away. I need more information and details. Back to you, m Tom
