I have been having severe upper back pain and muscle tightness. I woke up last week with a numb spot on the right side of my tongue. I immediately went to the Dr. Who promptly ordered an MRI which was completely normal! A week later, I still have the numbness along with very tight neck muscles and a weird numb sensation in my throat. My Dr. Says that he feels it is a facial nerve. I think maybe I am still concerned because of all the comments on stroke but the Dr. Said something would have shown up on the MRI. Any suggestions of what this could be?

Have you had dental work done recently?

I have Degenerative Disk Disease and a lot of upper back pain and I have the same problem. I have one spot on the right side of my tongue that is numb and won't go away. I am guessing that it is a nerve as I have numb spots in other places too. Sometimes different toes and fingers tingle and go numb in the same way.
