GE side by side refrigerator; frost-free freezer freezes up causing fridge to warm ,my model number is TFX22ZPBE WW
We have a GE frost-free side by side refrigerator with ice maker. It's 5 years old but for the past year+ we've been having problems with the freezer building up frost around the inside, and then the refrigerator doesn't get cold. I have to unplug everything, take the shelves out of the freezer and then blow-dry it sometimes twice a month, and then the refrigerator gets cold again. Email is [email protected]

Fault most likely is either the defrost timer or the defrost heater.

Refrigerator side, where the light is.

Remove control knobs (425),
Remove light shield (421)
You will see the shaft of the defrost timer motor projecting through the control cover (436)
Using a flat blade screwdriver slowly turn the defrost timer shaft clockwise until compressor stops running. Refrigerator will be in defrost mode.

Defrosting of evaporator coils should occur and refrigerator should return to cooling mode in approximately 20 to 30 minutes. If refrigerator does not return to cooling replace defrost timer (257). If defrosting does not occur replace defrost heater.

If the timer checks out then the problem is the defrost heater and terminator. You will find these parts in the freezer and you will have to replace them. DrTom4444
