My 4 year old daughter won't talk to me on the phone since Her father and I split. When I go to see her she doesn't want anything to do with me, is it because I walked out? I had no choice.

It's because she is 4. Four year olds can't grasp the concept of talking on the phone. They hear your voice, but can't see you.

Dang, my kid is 9! When I'm at work and call home he says "Hi Mom...I'm done!"

It has nothing to do with you being gone. Their tiny minds just cannot connect the voice to the face. Give it time.

Some four year olds don't talk on the phone. It doesn't matter who is on the other end. Is she listening?

I would tend to think there is more going on than you leaving. Do you mind sharing the circumstances? It could shed light on what might be happening.

Have you tried talking to her father about the situation?

How are her father and other adults in her life handling the separation? Had anything happened before you left that might have caused any personal problems with her? How often do you see her or attempt to talk to her on the phone?

She is 4. she would be doing that regardless of if you split or stayed together.

I am curious to know why the child is not with you instead of her father. That tells me that there may be something else going on, that is indeed making it more difficult for the child.
