I just bought a used Kenmore Elite top loader 110.16942500 and when I put it on the wash cycle, the water runs for about 5 seconds and stops. I can move the knob to the spin cycle and it will spin. Can anyone help me troubleshoot this problem?

I would check two things: the fill valves and the water level sensor. The tubing could also have a restriction from the tub to the water level sensor which works by pressure to a diaphragm to work a micro-switch that turns off the water solenoid and brings in the power to the motor. Should be easy to fix. I would be sure to check the inlet screens on the water solenoids, too. DrTom4444
