This site has guidelines that state an negative rating should only be used for an answer that was factually incorrect or inaccurate. Chuck's answer was neither so giving him a negative rating was unfair.

You gave us very little info to go on. Had you included the info you added in your rating, Chuck's answer might have been different.

Depending on local laws (ANY question on law needs to include your general locale as laws vary by area. ) the landlord may or may not be able to allow you renew the lease without the roommate. Also the timing on when the lease expires is also important. If there is time, he may be able to inform the roommate that he is terminating the lease.
