I have a Westell versa link modem 327W. Has anyone with one of these find connecting to different internet sites to be a on and off thing?
Seems to connect right after it's switched on and warmed up. After 5mins, it doesn't want to connect. I always shut mine off during the day fwiw.
The internet flashing led is very sporadic. Sometimes just steady on This is a phone line DSL. All lines, wires, double checked.
This one has no warranty at all. About 7 years old. Who sells these things?

This is from Verizon, right? I had one too and from what I read about them, they were junk. Mine gave me issues on and off but I was fairly lucky for the most part. Finally the wireless function on it quit. It still worked for the computer that was directly connected to it but my network was down.

I replaced it with a Westell 6100 modem for Verizon. I had to get a Netgear wireless router for the network and haven't had any problems since then... well, other than the normal problems I have with Verizon themselves.

Yes, Verizon. Which switched over to Frontier around us. I lost my MSN premium in the switch which sucked.
Where did you get the Westell 6100 from? Any tricks to switch it over?

Edit: Never mind. I have a 6100 right here. It was a cheap replacement from Verizon when I moved.
The power transformer overheated and died on the 6100 so I switched back to the 327W.
The transformers are different voltage so I can't just swap them out.
Those ones on eBay are pretty cheap I see.

I just purchased an Ebay item exactly the same make and model modem as I have now. It is brand new still in box, never used as far as I know.
When it arrives, is there anything special I need to do? Is it plug and play? How about my IP address? Do I need to initialize that or anything?

In Canada the modems are specific to the ISP and they are liable for them. I guess it's different in the States.

You should get your (modem) IP automatically as it is doled out by the ISP. Make sure your computer does not have a fixed IP, it should be set to obtain one automatically.
