I am disabled and I have been getting SSI monthly payments for the last 8 months. My wife has been rececently unemployed for three months. There are no jobs to be found in our small town. Even though she is getting $73.00 dollars a week unemployment checks for now, we can not afford to insure her. Some medical problems needs to be addressed but we are basically indigent. Is there any state or private insurance programs or vouchers to give her some help. We have recently been denied food stamp assistance and probably would not qualify for medicaid. Medicaid seems to be aimed to benefit families with children. She is 50 yrs. Old and needs to see a doctor We can not afford doctor's services or prescription medication. Is there any hope in sight?

Contact your county health department and see if there are any free clinics in your area that could help her. I know medicaid would not be a help as that is for young kids. Basically once you're older and in need of food stamps, etc. and you are denied there are very few avenues open. Sorry.

No there is no vouchers and there is no free insurance. Medicaid is the program available for those with nothing.

You can not be denied treatment from a ER that is government funded. But you will still owe them for the treatment,

Medicaid should apply for you. It's not just for children or for families with children. It's for people under a certain income level who meet certain other criteria.

Go to your hospital's ER for medical care. A social worker there will help you fill out any Medicaid forms.
