So my beautiful daughter we found out has been depressed for about 8 months. At the end of June she finally told us so admitted her to hospital, she was put on antidepressant 7 weeks so tripled dosage from 50 mg to 100 mg and then 2 days later 150 mg. she had two good days and then had to be admitted again with worsening suicidal thoughts. Dr took her off zoloft cold turkey and put her on effexor. She had been on it for about two weeks. First week 37.5 mg and now 75 mg for almost 2 weeks. She sleeps better now and says she is still very depressed but so thankful suicidal thoughts are gone but has stomach pains most of day now. What can I do about stomach pains

Stomach pain is a noted side effect of Effexor. See NIH sheet (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmedhealth/PMH0000947/#a694020-sideEffects). The pain may abate over time... not guaranteed.

You should carefully read and understand the information provided with any medication, carefully note any and all side effects and report them as soon as possible to the prescribing physician. Patients on antidepressants should always be carefully monitored. This is especially true for those under 25 years of age due to the black label warning on suicidal ideation.

Wish there was more helpful information.

Not put her on meds and perhaps instead of just giving her pills and defining her by a diagnoses ask her what she wants so do; whether it be therapy or medication.

She has been on concerta for 6 years for adhd. You are right antidepressants don't seem to work for her. Are seeing pyschiatrist again today...

The "audio" site is out of date and cannot be accessed. I note that you continue to post the same sites in all of your answers - what do Zoloft and birth defects have to do with this?

Just wanted to update everyone. After numerous antidepressants, antipyschotics, hospitals, counselling and nothing seeming to work... after about 6 months and almost giving up she was taken off concerta and put on ciprolex/lexapro 10 mg with a wee bit of seroquel at night 25 mg. all suicidal thoughts are gone. It took about 3 weeks and she was very very tired the first two weeks but she is well!!

To any of you teens; do not give up; tell someone; anyone; go to hospital if you are in danger of harming yourself, tell someone who you trust, keep trying the meds. In the end the meds are what helped her the most. Just need the find the right med and for each person that is different.

If you are feeling worse after 4 weeks, then try a different med

Well after jan 17 she started feeling depressed and anxious again. Doctor upped her cipralex and doubled it and took away the wee bit of seroquel... she ended up in hospital about 4 days later.. overdosed on aleve 17 pills.(don't know where she got them) she has been in hospital just over 2 weeks and now trying abilify. I get tired of the struggle; can't imagine how she must feel
