My husband's 35 year old female cousin has been living with us for a year. She lives on social security, she never finished high school, since living with us she has returned to adult school to get her diploma, however she has learning disabilities and it could take her a very long time.

Her SS allowance is not enough to enable her to have her own place, she needs to supplement it with employment income but has not yet been able to find a job. She does pay a small amount of rent which includes her food and she pays her own cable bill.

She stays in our guest room with own bathroom, this makes it very difficult when we have other family from out of town, which happens often. My family of 5 would like our space and privacy back but not sure how long we give her to get her life together.

Her stage of life is very much like an 18 year old that needs launching into the world but she is 35.

What country and state is this? I assume USA... does she have other family?

Legally... you only have to give her 30 days notice to leave, then you have to evict.

I can understand the situation, but aren't there other resources available to someone with her disabilities that can help her?

Have you looked into HUD? If not eligible, what about getting into a roommate situation? Perhaps someone has a 4 bedroom with one room for rent, this reduces overall monthly rents.
