I bought a 91 Honda Civic a week ago running good. Over the past couple days it has been getting harder to start and stay running. Rough idle in gear, a little bit smoother in N or P. Now at the Point to where I have to choke the air for it to start, if I hook air cleaner back up it dies, if not let go after started and stays running for a little while and then back to rough idle and will eventually kill itself. There are no intake leaks, cleaned IAC, fairly new air filter, and have checked fuel injector. Trying to figure out where to go to next, please help... If I can make it to the highway runs fine, just runs bad around town at low rpm and idle.

Consider installing a new Ignition Control Module (ICM), coil, and a set of spark plugs (NGK only). Clean throttle plate, throttle body, and upper and lower ports. Adjust idle speed to 700 rpm, once the engine is at normal operating temperature. Check timing with a strobe light (16 degrees BTDC), after jumping the Service Check Connector (SCC) with a paper clip. Afterwards, remove the Back-UP Fuse, in the under hood fuse box, for 10 seconds to reset the ECM.

Check for vacuum leaks in the hoses.
