Hello. My GE fridge (freezer on the top) has been giving me a puddle of water on the floor lately. Someone suggested it was a leak in the drain pan. I removed the front access panel and couldn't see anything. I then removed the back panel to see if I could find anything. I found a spot that the hose appeared to be draining into. I assume this is the drain pan but I can't be 100% sure.

I have attached a picture of what I see. I hope it is clear. Should I fill this with water to see if it leaks? Is there somewhere in the freezer I can pour water to see if the hose leaks? I pulled a lot out of the freezer to try and find a hole but all I found were some open slots in the back and again, I wasn't sure if this was a good spot to pour water.

Does someone know about this that can guide me?

No, it doesn't seem to be the door. When I checked the back of the fridge, there was definitely water coming out the back.

Right now I am thinking it may be the drain hose going from the freezer to the drain pan but am not certain.

You need to wash out coils and drain pan under unit and check position of drain pan. You can slide it out to clean it. You will see a drain hose which needs to be over drain pan. Make sure to replace cover when you are through cleaning it. If not cleaned it will burn up the compressor. DrTom4444

The drain pan doesn't come out. It is built in. The hose seems to be going right into it which is leaning me to believing the hose is leaking. Also, the back panel is a cardboard like material and it was also wet. Is there someplace I can pour some water in the freezer to have it go through this drain hose and watch for a leak?

If you will unplug unit, after it thaws out you can pour water into the freezer and it should run out of hose. You still need to clean it out and if you can take it outside and wash it out with a water hose you may not only cure the problem, but if not you will see where it is leaking. It could be that at some point it is stopped up and water is going somewhere other than the drain hose. You can slide out cover to coils in freezer and see the drain that hooks to the hose. DrTom4444
