I was recently placed into the first offender program in VA for possession. I wasn't convicted of any crime as long as I complete 6 months of probation along with 24 hours of comm service the charges will be dismissed. I meet with my PO for the first time on the 16th of August and I have to be at school in upstate NY by the 28th. I'm worried that the transfer process will take too long for me to go. My lawyer said I have nothing to worry about though. Will there be any problems with me going to school or will because it is informal will it be easier?

I will not go against your attorney, since I am sure he has had you inform the PO department, and they are giving you a temp permission in writing to travel out of state.

The official permission may take some time.

Of course moving out of state ( even travel out of state) without any permission would be a violation and I am sure your attorney has cleared any issue

Hello d:

To confirm what the Padre said, I would QUESTION your lawyer thoroughly, because I don't know how he can be so sure.
