Hi,

My husband is a green card holder and I have applied for F-1 .My case is still in the initial review stage. What I wanted to know was that without any status how can I get on my husband's insurance plan? As I have heard to get your spouse on your insurance you need either social security number or a tax id.

So how do I get either of the two as my status is still pending.

Instead of going on what you "heard" , heard from who ?
Go in and talk to either your insurance agent if private insurance or with your HR department at work and find out what is needed.

Contact your husband's insurance carrier. If in fact you need a tax identification number to be carried on his policy, ask the insurance acrrier to state that requirement in a memo on company letterhead.

Once you have that memo, you can then apply for an Individual Tax Identification Number (ITIN) by completing Form W-7 and submitting the Form w-7, the memo and a notarized photocopy of your passport picture page. You can submit this package of forms and supporting documents WITHOUT a tax return under one of the exceptions authorized by the IRS.

If you need professional help with this, email at [email protected], and I can help you in my role as a Certifying Acceptance Agent (CAA).
