When the tank is nearly full, sound like the pipes in the basement where the water pipe enters house vibrates sometimes 10 sec or even just a moment been like this for a 2 months and can't narrow it down. It does not happen all the time even gone one or two days with no noise since it started. I have not checked the toilet itself. I have tried to duplicate noise with other faucets to no avail. Would this valve in the toilet cause this noise way back down the line?
Thanks,
David

Yes it can. Which type of valve do you have in the toilet?

OK! Here's what's going on. As the tank fills the ballcock closes the stem and washer assembly to the seat. As it nears the seat the washer starts to vibrate, This is picked up by the house pipes, ( in your case the basement pipe) This is called sympathetic vibration.
The solution would be to shut shut the water off to the tank float and remove the three screws on top of the ballcock and lift the float ball assembly. Pry out the washer and reverse it. Make sure it's tight, Now )Place a pan over the open ballcock and turn on the water to flush out the supply, Replace the float ball and stem assembly and give it a test flush. Vibration gone? Good luck, Tom

Ok did that sort of... I removed to cap and stem assy. Did not appear to be a washer inside so I removed the seal on the stem and fliped it. Now it seems the overflow gets more water while filling the tank and the bowl fills about 15 inches lower. What did I do wrong? Was wondering if the ballcock seal is worn and causes the majority of the water to go in the overflow tube rather than the tank?
Thank you

Now it seems the overflow gets more water while filling the tank and the bowl fills about 15 inches lower. Please explain why, if the overflow tube is getting more water the bowl's getting less water. Doesn't make sense to me. More in and less out. Explanation please. Tom
