Can I use a saddle valve on a 3/4" Type L copper pipe?

Using these valves for more than temporary use will cause a leak and some gases will leak more than others. There is a valve that solders on, but on a line that large you will need to thin where the piercing valve will pierce the tubing by using a 1/4" drill and drilling part of the way into the pipe and then soldering the valve on with Sil-Fos 5% silver solder. You need an oxy/acetylene torch or Mapp gas torch to do this. Then after cooling you put the piercing valve inside the casing, hold with wrench and tighten down cap which pushes the piece into pipe and seals the part in casing making a leak-proof seal. Why is there not another access for hooking up the gauges somewhere else on the unit, and why do you need to do this? DrTom4444
