Hi, I was just curious about this question. I live in Canada. My ex-boyfriend and I are going to court over custody of our baby. I am going for Sole Custody, while he wants joint custody. At our first appearance he agreed to give me (temporary) sole custody. A few people have said that it does help improve the chances of getting Sole Custody, but I was just curious if anybody else knew more about it? Please note I am not going for Sole Custody to keep our son from seeing his father, but there are other reasons I am doing this! There will be visitation rights, and he's been seeing him very often since birth and now as well!

And what are these reasons? Sole Custody means that one parent has the right to make decisions about the child. Unless you can prove that the father will make it more difficult for you to raise the child, then you are unlikely to get sole custody. That he allowed temp custody pending a full court hearing should have little affect on the final decision.
