I recently purchased a used 2001 ford 7.3 diesel. It has been a nightmare. First a new ckank position sensor and cleanning of the injectors. Broke down again. This time wiring at the valve covers. Both sides bad. Broke down again. This time three injectors bad. Dealer says 1800.00. To fix. Seems to me the injector problems are maybe related to the dealers work. Any ideas

You have an awesome truck. I've worked on a 1999 F350 7.3L PSD and was extremely impressed. I wish I had a need for one myself. My friend works his hard hauling 13 head of cattle (6.5 tons) to market in 100 degree heat and drywall and other emergency supplies to Katrina victims in LA. I have other friends who have newer F350s with the same engine and they also love the truck. It's one of the best trucks ever made and extremely popular in Texas. I don't know why you are having problems with injectors. My advice is to learn about diesels and do the work yourself. There's a certain mystique about diesels and repair work is priced accordingly.

On diesels, it's very important to change fuel filters and air filters regularly. It's also important to know the quality of the fuel you are using. Diesels hate water in the fuel and, because of this, many diesel owners are particular about who they buy fuel from. I recommend use of Amsoil 15W-40 synthetic diesel oil in the engine and the Motorcraft FL-1995 filter. Change oil based on used oil analysis. It can be particularly advantageous to install a Gulf Coast or Amsoil bypass oil filter. Because of cavitation, you want to pay particular attention to regularly changing your antifreeze and adding SCA every 6 months. It's also important to regularly change the transmission fluid and filter. When I've done the work for my friend, we use Mobil 1 Synthetic Multi-Vehicle ATF. Very few trucks get worked harder than this one and it has only required normal preventive maintenance.
