My mom brought home a dog that was losing its home. We were just supposed to be a foster home when we found out the dog was pregnant. She had the puppies where we couldn't reach them. When we finally coould they were covered in fleas. Of the five I have one left. Gave him bath in dawn to get most of the fleas and now he is lethargic won't eat much and hasn't used the bathroom in a day or two. We didn't intend to have these puppies and I'm devistated that this has happened. I could use any advice on how to get this little darling all better again. Thank you in advance for any help.

First of, you make his bowels work by massaging his belly, that usually works. It is similar to what his mom would do with her tongue to make go potty. Phone your vet to get the proper formula so you can feed him with a bottle. It is a lot of work, but the bonding process is fantastic and you will have a lovely pet. Where is the mom, and what kind of dog do you think she is/was? Purina One Smarblend for puppies is what I have used before with success; but this was a long time ago; they still make this puppy formula with a lot of good things going for it.

Mom is some kind of bull dog mix. I'm not really sure. She has abandoned the baby. I've been using the cotton ball to try and stimulate it and using puppy formula from walmart. I'm following the instructions on can. He does get up and move every once and a while but this is may first time taking care of one this young and after all the other ones died I'm just really worried.

How many weeks is he ? You will have to persevere and call the vet; take him in. You sound pretty knowledgeable my dear and you care. If he is very young and you are stimulating and feeding him, then if he is getting up and moving around, then that is a good sign, but still, vet visit for sure. Wrap him up, keep him warm. I used to stick these little guys in my bra to keep them going for the warmth and hearing a heart beat. If he is in a little shelter, you may want to put a ticking clock in, he needs to hear sounds like a heartbeat. Cotton ball may not be enough, I would use a moist washcloth, may feel more like mom's tongue.

Please keep in touch, we have more dog experts here and I am sure they want to give you tips too, you will be overwhelmed with information my dear. Sounds like you are doing a good job.
