View Full Version : Installing a briggs and stratton motor on a craftsman riding lawnmower?

Replaced a 12.5 briggs& stratton with a briggs & stratton 13.5 intek... all connections seem to be good except 1 lone wire near front... engine turns sounds like it wants to fire up but won't... any suggestions( new batt, new spark plug etc).. could this lone wire b the culprit?. please help

Hi,
Sounds like that lone wire may be the power connector for the anti backfire solenoid. If it connects to the base of the carb, this would certainly be the case. It requires battery voltage with the switch in the on position.

Its connected to a small transformer type thingy next to the crankshaft. Is that the same one. How do I get power to it... I'm pretty novice weit engine work but will try it before I send to shop... appreciate all the help

Clarke is right , sounds like backfire solenoid,
Check key switch for accy side,this will be side that gets current when key is turned on. Wire into this , you want current when key is turned on.double check make sure it dosen't have current all the time this will run down battery and burn up solenoid.
