I have a friend who has made my husband and I godparents of her daughter! It has not been written down yet or anything. But the point of my question, my friends parents are going to try to take custody of her daughter and my friend absolutely does not want her going to them. She wants us to have full custody of her! The dad really isn't in the picture, low life, just got out of prison, and buys her things with his drug money! So I'm not really worried about him trying to get custody. What do I need to do to get something written up about her being put in our care! Or temp. custody. I need help, this child needs help. Could someone please give me some answers!

Why is it that the mother can no longer care for the child? You can ask the mother to grant you guardianship on a temporary basis. But if family wants her and the situation warrants it then you have no legal standing. God parents are more for when the parents die. Like in a accident or catastrophy.

You will need an attorney, and file in court for custody. The child's mother and father will have to sign normally.

First you need to explain why they no longer want or no longer can keep custody
