This is a really strange story, just to start it off. I'm 23 years old and my girlfriend is 22 and I care a lot about her but I don't know if I should leave her or not.
ANYWAY, a little over a year ago my best friend since childhood, Robert, was murdered outside of a bar. The person that killed Robert was charged but later the charges were dropped and he was released.
Skip forward about six months, when I found out another one of my friends (and was friends with Robert), Alex, had been hanging out with the person that killed Robert. The person that killed him is sketchy as hell, has a laundry list of violent charges and in general is not a good person.
So because me and all my friends dropped Alex he found a new group of friends. That group of friends just so happened to be my girlfriends friends. I told her about what happened between me and Alex and how much it hurts me and enrages me for one of my best friends to befriend the person that MURDERED another one of our friends.
All of her friends think Alex is great because they don't know about him. So I told my girlfriend I wasn't OK with her associating with Alex mostly because of what he did to me and the disrespect he showed to my best friend who had passed, but also because of the violent people he was keeping around.
The problem is all her friends are friends with Alex now and I can't expect her to just drop all her lifelong friends because this. She herself doesn't go hang out with him but if he's hanging out with her friends she'll hang out with him. I've also noticed lately that she's been commenting on his Facebook status's as well. I have never in my life been betrayed so badly by anyone, especially over such a tragic situation, than Alex betrayed me and Robert.
The thought of him befriending someone that murdered our best friend almost brings me to tears. I know its not fair for my girlfriend to leave all her lifelong friends because of one sketchy loser but I CAN'T DEAL WITH HER BEING AROUND HIM. I don't know what to do.
Am I fair in asking her to find new friends, or am I fair in leaving her over this? I just don't know what to do or who to ask, I care about her and we've been together since before Robert was even killed but it hurts me so bad that she associates with someone that has f**ked me, and Robert, and Roberts family (who have showed Alex hospitality for years) over so bad.
