I strained or tore the inner side of my calf muscle yesterday and it is swollen and I cannot walk or put weight on that leg. This is a repeat injury - I tore the same muscle about 3 years ago. I've been icing, elevating, and using a pressure wrap. I've also taken Advil. Any other advice on how to treat this and how long it will take before I can return to walking or running?

No advice about healing time, but I would go to a sports medicine group, since repeat tears may result in scar tissue. It sounds like you are running incorrectly, possibly allowing your feet to land with your ankles turned in or out. At the very least get a movie made of you running that you can watch in slow motion.

Also, running along the side of a road, especially a rural one, is not a good idea. Many injuries are sustained by long term running on roads that have a shoulder that curves down, which most do. You should run on a track or other totally flat surface.
