We installed a high efficiency amana central air unit last summer and this year its acting up! As long as you keep the thermostat at 80 degrees it stays off. We live in a hot humid climate in the summer and prefer to keep it set at 75-when we set it at 75 the a/c unit outside the house turns on and runs for a few seconds and shuts off for a few seconds-it will do this as long as you have it set below 80 degrees, the repair tech came out and put freon in unit-said it was low, and it helped for a couple days, then it started doing it again so we called the tech and they said replace the thermostat and we did, that worked well for a couple days and it started doing it again, we have changed the filter and have even gone to the basement to see if the heat/blower unit was doing the same thing-the unit in the basement doesn't shut off at all, as the outside untit shuts off the basement unit slows like it wants to shut off but doesn't have time to before the outside a/c cycles every few seconds. We are frustrated as both the a/c unit and heater unit are less than 3 years old and came from the same contractor. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated as the a/c unit has yet to prove to keep the electric bill down-even when it was working decent last summer.Dont have the funds to replace it but very tempting!

Not being there it would be only a guess,, its possible the capicitor could be bad,, only about a 25-35 dollar to try and see if it is the prob,, it to should be a part that's under warranty, just like your entire less than 3 year old condenser
