I'm 18 and am good friends with a girl who's going to be 15 in a few months. I asked her to prom before I knew her age and was shocked when I heard how old she was. I live in Nebraska I'm not 100% sure on laws, but I just want to know if its OK, or I could get in trouble.
My parents are against it, but her parents like me, so I don't know how they would feel about that situation. I'm going to be a senior this year, and she's going to be a freshman.
Sex isn't even being considered so don't worry about that. We both believe in abstinence. Any thoughts, or comments would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you

Talk to YOUR parents and find out why they are against it, probably for good reason, since next year you will be a full on adult and need to be doing adult things with adult people, and building a future, not courting some very young school girl.
Just me as a dad, no way does my 14 year old daughter mess with an 18 year old man, and no way would my 18 year old son get involved with a 14 year old girl, its unfair, and inappropriate for you both, in my eyes.
Keep a safe distance fella, use your own common sense here, and not just your feelings.

Normally I am not a fan of a relationship between an age gap like this. But there is no law against dating. As long as there is no sexual activity and her parent's approve, then legality is not an issue.
When is prom? If you asked her and she accepted and prom is close, then I would go ahead with it. Explain to her that you were unaware of her age when you asked and that you don't see a long term relationship, at least not until she turns 18. But since you asked her you will honor it if she still wants to go.
However, if this is next year's prom. Then I would just explain she is too young for you.
Your gonna have to wait til she's 18..
Why?

Are you asking if this is illegal, not a good idea or just crazy? Pick one

Age gap - 18 can date +50 if they should choose too. But until then it's a no go, however that's just my opinion!

That's my point. The OP specifically asked about laws and getting in trouble. Your answer indicated that he HAD to wait. But there are no laws against this. As long as the parents do not object and there is no sexual activity, then he will not get in trouble.
But I agree the gap at this point is too wide for a long term relationship. However, If this is for a one time prom date, I don't see too much of an issue.

First I am not sure that the school will even allow a 8th grader to come to the prom.
Next unless your parents give permission, no you can't anyway.
And her parents may like you but any good parent in their right minds would not let you date their 14 year old daughter

I didn't read the question the same way you did, I don't think he only meant if it was okay according to the law..
