I helped my friend buy a car by using my credit. The title is in my name and he has just been making the payments. He moved to another state and still owes me money for the car but won't respond to my calls. What can I do?

You get a copy of the title and go pick up the car. Have you told the fianance company that the car is out of state?

Since its in your name its your responsibility. When you go to get the car if they refuse to give it to you then you can call the police.

Do you have any type of written rental or loan agreement on the car ? How is the car titled ? Is their name on it at all ?
How is the license listed

There is no written agreement on anything, I paid the rest of the car off and I have the title. His name is not on it at all.

So how did you get the plate and do you pay for the insurance and have it insured ? *** do you even know if there is insurance on it ?**

But yes, you need to just go over there, find it, and bring it back.

I'm not sure what you mean by plate. I have the paper title. It might be insured under his name. Is there anyway that I could maybe pay a towing company to bring it back or something? I am in Florida and he is in Texas.

License plate (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/License_plate). http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/2/26/Florida_license_plate_In_God_We_Trust.jpg/150px-Florida_license_plate_In_God_We_Trust.jpg

You probably could get a towing company to pick it up for you. It might be pricey to have them tow it all the way from Texas to Florida though.

Not a towing company, but a repo company. If the registration is in his name, this may be a problem. Having the title is only part of it.

Normally he shouldn't have been able to register in his name without the title, but...

I would take one more tact, I would tell him that unless he returns the car or pays what he owes you, you will report the car as stolen.

Again, that is not really enough info, since a license plate and registering the vechile to drive and having insurance on it, are other very serious issues.

If you go or hire a company to go pick it up, and the car is registered in his name, the license plates are in his name, you may have more issues with it.

But honestly, it will be cheaper to hop in a plane, fly to Texas, go find the vechile and drive it home than hire it to be done, unless you are just going to have a repo company pick it up and sell it at a auction ( for very low money)

I will end up flying there and getting it myself.

You still have to make sure you have your documentation. If you don't have the keys, what happens if your "friend" refuses to turn over the keys? What happens if the license plate and registration is in his name. You take the car and he can report it stolen and get you in trouble.

So you really need to make sure all your documentation is in place and verified.
