My friend and I, were planning on getting our bottom lip pierced we promised each other we would get it done. We were planning this for a long time but then I got braces and I don't know if I can get it pierced, and I'm not getting it done in the middle I'm getting it done on the side. Will I be able to get it done so I don't break my promise. I really want it done?

How is this a "legal" issue?

Its not a legal issue! The site wouldn't let me change it to dentistry

Yes you can, but I'd recommend that you wait until your braces are off. The combination of braces and a lip piercing can injure the piercing site, depending on which type of lip piercing, and can damage the braces themselves.

Which sort of piercing did you want?

How old are you? If you're a minor, who's doing the piercing? Have you talked to your parents about this?

If you're paying for the braces, do you know how damaging mouth piercings can be to teeth? An expensive set of teeth like those corrected by braces may be too valuable to risk on a mouth piercing.

Just some food for thought.

Are you getting bottom or top braces?

I took a second look at your question, and I do not mean to offend you, however I think you should think a little more about getting this piercing. You will have that scar forever if you ever remove the piercing. That's a big deal. When getting any body modification, you should always think a lot about it. Weigh pros and cons. You shouldn't just get it because your friends are.

I'm 14 where I'm from you can be any age to get a piercing but you need a consent witch the person has to be 18 or older, I am allowed to get this done by my parents but my parents are not the ones that are taking me my brothers friend is, I know the risk but my parents can pay for my teeth if something is to happen after I get it done

I'm sorry but that is very immature thinking, I am not insulting you, just stating a fact.

I do not believe you are mature enough to take care of a piercing, especially an oral piercing.

It was my idea not my friends.and nope you didn't offend me at all, and I know it will leave a scar but I'm not planning on taking it out

Another word of advice, do not get a facial piercing unless you have a stable job that does not disapprove of them.

If this piercing does something to your teeth, you think they'll just pay to fix that as well?

Have you discussed this with them? You should seek their consent, they are the people in your life that are always after your best interests and they are wise.

I'm more mature than you think. I know that sounded stupid but it will just be a little scar you won't be able to see it I had my nose pierced before and I took good care of it and nothing went wrong until my sweater hooked the ring that was the only reason it came out an I'm pretty sure I can fallow the rules for an oral piercing and I had my ears pierced 2 times on each ear. Why would you think I was immature?

I meant the comment about your parents just paying again.
That shows immature thinking.
Also, oral piercings are far different from any other piercing, especially ear.

But back to the main question, it would not be a good idea to get a labret piercing while having bottom braces. Please wait.

Yes my parents are paying for my braces, and I think they will pay for it to be fixed.
I have discussed this with my parents I would never go off and get a piercing without there consent I'm not immature like most 14 year old not saying your calling me immature I'm just saying I would never do that.

They would pay again I know my parents and there not just going to let my teeth go messed up again, and I know an ear piercing is much different.

Ask the Dentist - I see lip piercings and braces fairly frequently.

The question isn't "should" you do it; the question is "can" you do it.

If your parents are willing to sign and you want it done and the Dentist approves I don't see any "no you can't" answer.

I'm 15 , and I've had my 3 liprings for 2 years now . Personally , as long as you get it a little lower than normal lip rings, then you should be fine , as long as you stick to a stud, and not a hoop. I that this helped .c:

P.S. - here are aftercare basics

-no drinking milk for a week
-no oral sex for 3 weeks (I don't know, it's always on the after-care instruction sheet, around here)
-everytime you drink or eating anything, you got to rinse out your mouth with Listerine.

For washing;
For the first week; was twice a day , with antibacterial soap(outside of mouth only) and normal water . When done washing, then put neosporian(I know, I spelled it wrong) around the pierced area . After the first week , cut down to only washing once a day, and continue putting neosporian around the pierced area . After the first 2 weeks are up, the piercing should be healed

I have the same problem. My mother is against it, but my father's OK with it. He also said to ask my orthodontist 1st. My orthodontist told me you can get it done, but it's not recomened with braces. So, I'd wait till your braces are off to get it done.

I have braces too, top and bottom, and I want to get my lip pierced on the side as well. I am 13 years old and extremely mature, but my parents are still saying no. I have weighed thee pros and cons and I think I could take care of a lip ring. I have 1 ear piercing in my left ear and 2 in my right and I just got my second right one a couple weeks ago, I am taking great care of it. I just got my braces last Friday so if I wait until they come off to get my lip pierced then I will be waiting 2 whole years, by the way I have been being very careful about what I eat and drink and I brush my teeth even more than I have to without any prodding from my parents. Whenever I ask my mom she yells at me for asking and she never really gives me reasons about why she is so against me having a lip ring. I know ways to hide it, like the clear studs and stuff and I have been researching everything possible about them. Does anyone have any suggestions on hoow I could possibly change my parents' minds and get them to give me their consent?? Please, I could use all the help I can get.

I was asking the same question because I might need braces. I have snakebites so for one it might get caught in the wire because with most lip piercings you have a flat back and what not. I've had the regular flat back studs and they scrap against your teeth because you need a longer bar to accommodate the swelling and those would definitely cause more damage to your braces especially after they heal.. I started wearing captive rings and they don't scrap against your teeth at all and would cause less damage.
If you still want the lip piercing you could request to have a hoop put in instead of the stud, but studs are better and make the healing process faster. Also oral piercings heal really fast so in the second week of getting the piercing you could always change it to a hoop if you have a stud...

I'd wait if I were you only because you already have braces. If you were to have the piercing before I'd say it's no problem.. I also suggest talking to your orthodontist and a piercing artist and get professional feedback..
Hope this helped

I have my bottom lip pierced on the right side. & I have braces. However, I will bother your braces until you get used to it . & on the orthodontist they will hurt you with the tools..

But yeah you can get it with no problem ((:
