Can you sue for slander if what the person tells is the truth but the people they tell shouldn't know. It is still harmful to your reputation once they say it though.

Hello b:
If it's the truth, it's not slander... But, they aren't allowed to intentionally inflict emotional distress upon you, even if they told the truth... What did they say, and why should the people they told NOT know it?

Agree with Excon - the purpose the info was repeated to other people is also important. Of course, this would have to be completely unknown info to the "other people."

Slander only comes into play when the information being revealed is untrue. Just because you don't want the other people to know is basically your problem.

You have no case if it is the truth. If they are giving out restricted information, like if it is your doctor giving out your medical info or your attorney giving your legal info.
