I've always been a voracious reader, but due to going through a stressful period in my life I've completely lost track and fallen out of the loop regarding new, amazing work being published. Does anyone have any suggestions based on my current favorite authors? They are: Douglas Coupland; Haruki Murakami, David Sedaris, Michael Crichton, Audrey Niffenegger. My guilty pleasures are thrillers by the likes of Robin Cook and Dean Koontz, and historical fiction by Anya Seton & Phillipa Gregory. OK, OK - that's a pretty broad scope. But anyone have any recommendations for books/authors that have blown them away lately?

Thanks!

Oooh, Ken Follet - I've always LOVED The Pillars of the Earth, so def. will check that out.

Can you tell me a bit more about the other two books you mentioned?

And thanks for the suggestions in general!! :)

On a Pale Horse is the first book in the Incarnations of Immortality series. In each book, a mortal ends up taking on the job of one of the immortals, or gods. In On a Pale Horse, a man has to take over for Death and learn how to cull souls from dying people without scaring them and how to ease them into Eternity. It turns out to be tougher than he thought it would be. Somewhere along the line he falls in love. It's the best book in the series.

Other Immortals dealt with in other books are Time, Mother Earth (Nature), Satan, War, God, and Fate. Incarnations of Immortality - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Incarnations_of_Immortality)

My library homebound delivery guy Tom was a good reader's advisory person for when I chose books for the nice older ladies we sent books to. It was Tom who kept telling me to read Fortune's Rocks. One day I finally checked it out and started to read, and was hooked on Anita Shreve. I hope you've read Timeline by Crichton.

Sarum (historical fiction) by Edward Rutherfurd is a long read, but excellent. Sarum (novel) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sarum_%28novel%29)

Have you read James Michener's books? The Source is my favorite with Chesapeake second fave.
