I have a Briggs & Stratton 24 HP engine (445677-0827-E1) on a Craftsman 46 inch riding mower (917-288280). It cranks well and gets fire. It starts briefly with starting fluid but won't run for more than about 1 second. It has new fuel and I've confirmed the fuel pump is pumping fuel into the carb inlet. I removed the carb and cleaned it thoroughly and confirmed the governor is adjusted properly. I put it back together and it started right up. I drove it for about a minute and parked it last night. This morning it cranks but won't start again (except briefly with starting fluid). I let it cool and then confirmed I could hear that the fuel solenoid was clicking when the key is turned on and again when turned off. I then touched the solenoid and found it very hot to the touch. I confirmed the solenoid is retracting when the key is on and extending when the key is off. Any assistance is appreciated.

If thers gas in the carb and the solenoid is working , still something in carb.this probably has a two barrell on it .
Need to take apart put in a good can of carb cleaner and let soak for a few hours , then run cleaner wire where ever you can .Luck

Thank you DG. I do appreciate your help. I was able to get it to run but now I can't control the throttle. No matter where I set the throttle linkage an/or governor the engine either over revs super high or runs at a slow idle but noting in between. I'm not familiar with how the governor works (or apparently doesn't in my case) so it looks like its time to call out the repair man.
