I stayed home raising kids for twelve years and don't regret a minute of it -- had volunteered at the local grade school (I had been a teacher before kids) and at my church, was able to be there for all my kids' developmental "firsts," taught them good habits and how to be part of a family with chores and play, took pennies from the piggy bank in order to buy bread and milk (living on one income is tough), and kept a comfortable home baking lots of homemade cookies and cupcakes.

But then, this was 1969+, a time when moms stayed home with growing families, didn't work outside of the home.
