We got a new shower installed in the bathroom and since then we have no cold water at all. The shower on a cold setting gives warm water and on the Hot setting gives very hot water. If I lower the over all temperature of the water heater, it solves the problem in our bathroom, but then we do not get enough hot water in the kid's bathroom nor in the kitchen..
Is the shower not installed correctly? Any suggestions?

Hi Sdhingra...

Most likely the shower valve has its TEMPERATURE LIMITING DEVICE set improperly... ;)

Here, if you look under the handle, or if needed, under the trim itself you should find either a temperature limiting screw (symmons brand valves) or a geared/teethed device (delta, kohler) that can be adjusted to restore cold water to the valve.

You can adjust this or I would simply call the people that installed it and ask them to pop out and make the proper adjustments needed.

In my area, all shower valves MUST be adjusted to a temperature not to exceed 115F (46.1C)... should be a similar code requirement in your area.

Questions? Let me know, OK?

Mark

PS: Be sure to set the water heater to a temperature that doesn't exceed 125F (51.7 C) BEFORE you make the adjustement to the shower valve temperature limiting device... ;)
