Hey everybody,

I want to join the military, and do something that's actually GOOD for once. But I'm not big on the whole dying for the country idea. I'd like to minimize the risks of actually dying so here comes the question:

WHICH BRANCH OF THE ARMED FORCES HAS THE LEAST CASUALTIES?

Please don't call me a coward. Thanks.

One of my library volunteers joined the Navy for that very reason because, he said, they usually serve as support. Several of our members here on this site were in the Navy during 'Nam and did see action. I'll PM one or more of them to give you a better answer than mine.

I was thinking the Navy as well... or maybe the Air Force?

Nobody knows how the next conflict will evolve... So, there really isn't an answer. Ships MIGHT look safer, but you can't run away from a sinking ship, and it's a big ocean. There's SHARKS in there... Being in the air ain't much better. Being on the ground sucks too, because you look the enemy in the EYES before you shoot him, or he shoots you. However, you CAN retreat, and if you're wounded, there's a good chance of survival.

So, it really depends on what YOU want to do... If fighting with your HANDS appeals to you, join the Army or the Marines.. If you want to antiseptically kill the enemy, join the Navy or the Air Force. At least with THOSE services, you eat a warm meal every night, and sleep in your own bed.

Coast Guard, Short of that there is always a chance. Next it is not always what service but which job you do, if you do payroll or computer programing, odds are you are not on the front line.

My library volunteer was in Pensacola, FL for school and was then sent to Virginia Beach for a year. About four months ago, he was shipped out to the Mideast where he is sitting on a ship near Bahrain. He PMed me on FB: "Here I am doing all this things that I never thought I ever would, meeting all these different people from all parts of the world." He just re-upped for five more years.
