I also have an 1997 honda accord it's a 4 door lx and I am having one problem after another first it kept running hot found out it is the pipes then it was the fans weren't working so we straight wired now as we are riding down the road it just shuts down it usually takes a few min. before it starts back up sometimes we hafta pull over sometimes we don't and to add more to my misery it will start shut off in the middle of the road start back up when I am at my destination it want cut off I can pull out the key and the engine is still running I'm at my wits end please help... oh and yes I am a woman if this storys sounds a lilttle dramatic but I am in desperate need

Thoughts:

Assuming the overheating problem is solved, and the head gasket, aluminum head, and valves are okay, the Ignition Control Module (ICM) and coil may need replacing. This is a common problem on Hondas that causes them to suddenly die. I recommend replacing them every 120,000 miles or 10 years, whichever comes first.

I would not spend any money on the car (including on the ICM and coil), however, until you know the overheating problem is solved. Since the car is "dieseling" on you, even when turned off, it sounds like there's still a major overheating problem and the source of all of your problems.
