I live in a warm climate zone, I don't use warm water to shower and I was wondering if it is safe to turn off the water heater completely indefiantely. If so what is the procedure to shut off an electric water heater. Thanks

Would you still be occupying the home or would it be vacate? If still living there just shut off the breaker, that's it.

Very simple, turn off the water and flip the breaker to the off position.

Hi Faspas...
If you will continue living there while shutting down the hot water then, as Ballenger suggested, you should only need to shut off the electricity to the water heater.
You don't want to shut off the cold water feed going into the water heater, OK? Here, if you shut the cold water shutoff into the water heater you will effectively shut the hot water flow off entirely and that will result in causing your single handle PRESSURE & temperature balanced tub/shower valve(s) to stop working properly (if you have one or more) and you won't be able to use the tub/shower valve at all.
Back to you...
