Hello All, I have about 2 monthes until I get out of the Marines. I'm currently stationed in Camp Pendleton, California however I've been an Alaskan resident for nearly 20 years. I have visited Alaska every year for at least 3 weeks. Due to employment options, I'll be staying in California for a period. I do plan on buying a house here in California and purchasing land in Kodiak, Alaska to build a retirement home. I do have family that still lives up in Alaska. Is there any way to retain my Alaskan residency despite having employment in California? I do have every intention to retire and live in Alaska, how long from now that is, is dependent on the circumstances with my employment. Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

You reside where you have your primary residence - that's where you vote, pay taxes, have a drivers license. If you have a residence in Alaska, sure, that can be your primary residence.

But if you don't... welcome to California.
