I came home and noticed that my fan on my outside AC unit was just humming and the fan was no longer running I got HVAC people in who stated I needed to replace the motor. I bought a new motor and capacitor. However, my new fan had an extra wire. Below is what I did:

Old fan Brown, Black, Purple, Green

New Fan Brown, Black, Brown w/ white stripe, Green, White

Old fan Purple and brown wires were connected to the three pronged capacitor

New Fan Green wire connected to the old green, black wire connected to the old black, brown wire connected to the old brown, brown w/white
Stripe connected to the old purple wire, and white wire not used.

I took the old purple wire(now the brown w/ white stripe) and the old brown wire off the three pronged capacitor and connected them to the new two pronged capacitor. I left the other connections on the old capacitor.

It is still making the same humming noise before I bought the new motor. Is there something else wrong or did I mess up in the wiring? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Brown and brown with white stripe go to capacitor. White and black go to power. It's that simple. DrTom4444

The green goes to ground, or the chassis. DrTom4444
