Hi my name is yvette, I have a big problem.*** help me. I got evicted last nov.2011 in my old apartment. But they still charged me until April this yr. as soon as I get the evection letter I moved out right away. I could understand why did they still charged me. I talked to the manager they said that they have to charge me until somebody move in. is that legal of what they do to me. Now I owed them almost 9thousand. *** help me...

First, ANY question on law needs to include your general locale as laws vary by area.

Well first, you apparently weren't evicted. An eviction is a court order. If you just got a letter stating that you need to vacate, that's not an eviction.

But, it might depend on the wording of that letter. You could be held responsible for the balance of the lease. But, in most cases, if the landlord is terminating the lease for cause, then the lease is terminated and so is your responsibility.

If you were asked to leave because you were late paying the rent, you could be liable for the remaining months on the lease, assuming the landlord made reasonable efforts to find a relacement tenant.
