The story by angel 90909 has some similarity in my case.

My husband left for Morgantown,West Virginia in fall 2008 from India to take up MS and PhD programs.I was suppose to go there after he finuished his course.

Things were all right, till August 2009.Since September 2009 he was attacked by some fellow American students who were ragging him for unknown reasons.

He last called me in June 2010, and his last mail came in October 2010.I asked his college authorities, who gave excuse of FERPA for not releasing his details.
His fellow Indian students have no clue where he is.

I wanted help from American Consulate in Kolkata and Indian Embassy in Washington.I am yet to receive any details from them.

Can anyone help me how to trace him and ensure his physical security.

Hire a licensed private investigator in the area where he last resided. That will locate him.

I don't know that you can ensure his physical safety - that's a matter for the Police.

Can you help me to note who is authentic since I am from India and there might be dozens of investigating agencies, and I am not sure of their authenticity!!

I'm sorry but I cannot recommend anyone. I would make a few phone calls. Explain what you need, ask for the hourly rate, set a limit for the bill (no more than $X, for example).
