I have a 2003 Kia Spectra (automatic trans).

Lately, whenever I come to a stop and brake, my car stalls. All I have to do is shut the car off and turn the key in the ignition and it starts right up again.

It doesn't do it all the time, only seems to happen if the car hasn't been driven for a few hours: usually, it happens first thing in the morning on my way to work and at lunch time when I drive to lunch. If I've been driving the car for awhile, it's fine.

Any thoughts?

Thoughts:

. Check for codes.

. Check the idle rpm.

. Replace platinum spark plugs, if they have not been changed in 50,000 miles.

. Check the Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) Sensor. It may not be delivering a rich enough fuel mixture, when the engine is not at normal operating temperature.

There is an ECM software update, 3EN009, that may address this but you might also have a sticking or sluggish Idle Air Control Valve IACV. Get a quality throttle plate cleaner from your local parts store and follow the instructions on the lable.
