I was wondering if anyone knows what this covers. I was in the Emgerency Room last week. Six days later I received a call from the Dept of Health stating that I was exposed to the Measeles and needed to be quarenteened for two weeks, no work, no contact with people. I am a government employee that works for my town in the tax office. Are they required to pay me for my time off now? It just doesn't seem fair to me if they don't.

You've verified the call about the measles? It wasn't a prank?

What kind of measles?

... Are they required to pay me for my time off now? ...

All depends on their rules for medical leave.

But what, if anything, does this question have to do with HIPAA (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HIPAA)?

This has nothing to do with HIPAA. It has to do with your employer's sick leave policy.

The only important fact here is that you are required to be out of work for a medical reason. Whatever policies your employer has for being on sick leave govern here. For example, the policy might be that you have 5 days in a row for short term, and then your long term policy takes effect.

It has nothing to do with fairness, it has to do with whatever policy is set.
