My doctor has me on lortab 7 for my back and I have to take shots in my back. They are wanting to do spinal spinal fusion srgery andi am afraid of that. But my question is: My doctor asked me to do a urinf test the other day which is fine. All they will find is only the prescribed drugs they give me. Some day I am up twelve hours or more and go to school and work full time so some days I take more than three. Will the urine test tell them a level of lortab in my system? I just don't want them to think I am a druggie cause I'm not. The doctors seem to forget what is was like to be in college and be up all hours of the night. Someone please ease my mind and if they can tell the level --what is the normal level? I took 2 lortabs about an hour before I went to the doctor that morning.
Please ease my mind.
Thank you

Because of wide interindividual variance in metabolism quantification would be meaningless in a single urine sample. The purpose of such tests are generally to detect non-prescription drugs (addictions) and to confirm the presence of the prescribed drug (compliance, diversion).

Doctors that prescribe pain meds order these tests to demonstrate reasonable care and caution in their prescription practices, in accord with practice guidelines, record keeping and so as to appease the DEA if contacted. The testing process is not extensive.
