My dog have been having seizers for over a year now. The vet has done blood work a couple of times and can't find out what is causing them. He is been taking 60mg of phenobarbital 2tab twice a day for a year now. He is still having seizers every night and I don't know weather to take him off or not. They had him on bromide along with this but it didn't help. I feed him a food now with all natural ingredients and no luck there. Im desperate for help for him. I have had my bulldog for 8 years now and he is like a child to me. If anyone could help me out here I would appreciate it. Thank You, Jeanne email is

When and how often do you feed him?
Our dog also had seizures, for many years, until the 4th or 5th vet to see him happened to do a routine blood test long after meal time, and noticed an unusually low blood sugar level. (Previously his exams had been closer to meal time.) The vet suggested the seizures might be caused by blood sugar level dropping faster and lower than usual.
The vet suggested we test the idea by feeding the dog 3 times a day instead of once a day, reducing the portions so his total food intake was the same. That way, by the time the blood sugar started to drop, he would be eating his next meal.
The result: no seizures in over a year.
Good luck!

I feed him 2 times a day. Around 10am and around 7pm They have done blood work 2 times now and it cost me almost $200.00 each time. I don't have the money to have him tested again. He always has them between 3am to 6am. Thank You for your reply. Jeanne

Based on our experience, if it was my dog, I think I might try splitting those 2 meals into 3 meals, with the last one as late as possible at night. If the blood sugar situation is a cause, you might see either no seizure, or one several hours later than normal. If that isn't the cause, and you see no change, then you haven't spent anything and there is no harm.
Good luck!
