I have a 15 year old heat pump and electric furnace I am so proud of it lasting this long with no problems, but the blower motor will stop running about once a month usually when I most need it (meaning maybe it has stopped other times and I have not noticed it.) I can see the unit is still getting power to it as I have a UV light for mold and it is on and the heat pump fan is running outside the house. The only thing that I can do is turn off the breakers on the side of the unit, and turn them back on. Usually it takes 3 or 4 times. I wish I could tell you the longer I let it sit, the more frequently it comes back when I flip the breaker, but I usually let it sit for about a minute then try it, so I can't tell you if time setting with the breakers off helps or not. I assume there is a resettable breaker inside the unit that might be getting set off, but don't know where to get an exploded parts diagram for the furnace. Any help is appreciated!!

There are only three parts that could fail: the motor, the capacitor, and the relay. At times you can have a capacitor that is partially shorted. This costs about $5.00. You can check it with a meter and if it has no resistor between the two terminals it should read resistance and go to zero and when you switch lead position it will do the same. Otherwise it may be a bad fan motor which is heating up and opening the safety. Check the leads and see if they read any resistance to ground; if they do your motor is bad. In that case replace both motor and capacitor. DrTom4444
