When I was at school we read a great story about a boy living in coastal England during WWII. He ends up taking a boat (can't remember if it's his dad's or something) and with his friend and helping in the evaculation of allied troops at Dunkirk.

The only other thing I seem to remember is that one of the boys gets shot on one of their trips and I think the other carries on doing the trips without him.

It was a fantastic book and I'd love to read it again. I've searched everywhere and I just can't seem to find any clues
