Old GE hood vent. The push button light switch is broken. Had two on settings dim and bright. Pulled the switch and it has three wires. Blue Black and Orange. Local hardware store just has a simple push on, push off switch with two black wires. Don't know but are there three wires because of two different on settings? Really just need to turn on(bright) and off. Any way to use the two wire switch to do this? Thanks for any help.

Yes, if you are willing to settle for one level of brightness. Connect the power in wire to one wire of the switch and one wire from the light to the other. If light comes on dim remove the wire from the light fixture that you connected and connect the other one. If that doesn't give you the correct brightness, connect both wires to the switch. Who knows you may have two bulbs and need to have both burning for the maximum brightness. Cap off any unused wire with a wire nut.

What Harold said or you can order the actual part on line Appliance Parts search by model or part number | AppliancePartsPros.com (http://www.appliancepartspros.com/partsearch/). Most hardare stoes should carry both types of switches but smaller shops are more basic.
