Several of the blades on the transaxle fan have sheared off. Can someone advise how easy it is to replace the fan? Is it done from the top or does the axle have to come off (probably beyond what I would undertake)? Does the fan cool the transmission or the belt? It seems very small to have any measurable cooling effect..?
For the short term is it ill advised to use the L110 until the fan is fixed?
Thanks for the help.
Should be able to reach in on the side and replace fan,
I always remove the tire and wheel for easy access.
And to answer ? Its to cool tranny.

DG Thanks. I removed the "shroud" above the belt/pulley/fan assembly and can not figure out how to remove the pulley so I can get to the fan. The fan wings were apparently digging into the belt which is going to need replacement too.
This is what it should look like # 2 is a snap ring remove this and it should come off.

I just did this as well. You should also replace the "wobbly" washer that is item 4 in the diagram above. A John Deere technician told me that it worth replacing when replacing a fan. (I think the washer was around a dollar).
*** The snap ring is a nightmare to remove unless you have the correct size, 90 degree, snap ring pliers. It is really tight in there. I did not remove the tire as others have mentioned, just the fan guard above the pulley.
