My son is charged with measure 11 in Oregon assult 2.No weapon was used just his hands.went to court yesterday and there was no indictment.His pd said that's good but needs to see what's up.My question is why is there no indicment after 2 weeks he has been locked up, and how long can the hold him?

I am reading that a person can be held a reasonable period until all of the evidence is "in" and the investigation is complete. I cannot find a more specific time frame. Hopefully someone can.
I do read that the States can follow either Federal or State guidelines.
Federal Law is - The information or indictment must be filed within 30 days from the date of arrest; Trial must commence within 70 days from the date the information or indictment was filed, or from the date the defendant appears before an officer of the court in which the charge is pending, whichever is later.
