I was a volunteer fire dept, firefighter and reporter in a small town. My Ex chief is telling everyone that I was going to the assistant house late at night and staying real late without my b/f's knowledge(which is not true)! And they are telling non memebers that I am a thief for stealing the 7 dollar t-shirt incentives that they conveniently are saying it was a uniform now(I don't have the shirt, I threw it in the fire dept building! Would this be called Slander?

I have no clue what an assistant house is but , if you can PROVE the statements are knowingly false, it could be considered slander. Can you sue, sure, but what are your damages? Did you lose a job over these statements?

There is a difference between spreading rumors and slander. Have you gone to the assistants home, you did have the Tee shirt and returned it indicating you know its not yours. Tell us more, I doubt that a slander suit will go anywhere but it might make the Chief think twice about further rumors

So you returned a shirt but have no proof in writing it was returned. Have you addressed either the Board of Directors that control the fire department or contacted the county commissioner to ask for these lies to stop /?
