I bought a used dryer (maytag model #MDE9306AYW). When I went to hook it up, I noticed that the extension hose from the exhaust to the vent hose was missing and there was a lot of lint in the bottom. I cleaned out the lint to the best of my ability, and bought the extension hose to connect to the exhaust and flexible vent hose. When I turned on the dryer it seemed to work fine. About 3 minutes into it running, the dryer started to smoke. I immediately turned it off and unplugged it. What is causing this?

Could be lint that was displaced during the move. Reclean the vent system well and try again. Does it smell like paper or cloth burning or a rubber smell?

It has to be totally disassembled and cleaned, including the blower fan or it will cause a fire. DrTom4444
